The future of smartphones is dual cameras

March 16, 2016

We have all seen the higher resolution, bigger, and even faster processors on mobile phones. These features make us excited and when we are able to experience it ourselves, we feel on the top of the world. Do you know that you can get an even better camera technology in your next smartphone? Corephotonics is a new player in the industry and, in the next few months will bringing a new technology into the mobile space: phones with dual camera.

Dual camera system

The dual-camera technology will come with an optical system that has no moving par. And any smartphone that is equipped with the system will come with better noise reduction. The most interesting thing is that this mechanism is not available on the sensors of current smartphones.

CNET reported that during the 2014 Mobile World Congress, the company, Corephotonics, said that certain phones will feature its technology in the same year. Now, we are in 2016, two years after, and there is no sign of the technology in any smartphone. The delay is certainly frustrating considering that most tech geeks always want something new and exciting.

What is the function of this technology?

In the past, we have seen mobile phones operating on dual cameras. Phones like the HTC Evo 3D uses dual camera to take 3D images. The images taken are then viewed on the 3D display of the Evo 3D. However, the technology did not take off at that time because it does not look real and the demand was not there. Dual cameras mobilephone

Then come Corephotonics dual-camera technology. This one is a different technology than what we have seen in the past. The technology depends on two cameras: one is a wide-angle camera and the other is a fixed-focus telephoto with a narrow field of view both working together with the same algorithm to produce a superior image. According to Corephotonics, this technology offers noise reduction in low light, resolution gains, increased depth analysis and dynamic range.

Conclusion

What are your own expectations? Are you looking forward to this technology from Corephotonics? According to the Israeli startup, the combination of the two cameras is what it refers to as ‘computational camera,’ and is supposed to offer images that are more optimized and with a lot more detail than what you have seen in the regular smartphones.
