LG G7 ThinQ - Another 6.1-inch notched screen

It looks like LG is finally ready to join the other big players with the release of its flagship product, the G7 ThinQ.

Display Features

LG G7 ThinQ comes with a prominent new feature; a notch on its display. LG has decided to go for a trendy 6.1-inch screen display like Huawei P20 Pro. This display has an aspect of 19.5:9 and a resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixel. The bezels are notably thinner than ever.

G7 ThinQ runs on LCD technology instead of OLED. Despite that, the new M+ LCD panel are apparently brighter with the RGBW light and better in contrast while being much more power efficient at the same time. It is HDR 10 compliant and covered by a Gorilla Glass 5 protective layer.

G7 ThinQ’s notch is touted by them as the “new second screen” because display horns surrounding the notch will be customizable the display notch. Other than the notch, the LG G7 also features the first ever hardware assistant button for LG. This button can be used to call forth Google Assistant.

General Specs & Hardware

LG G7 spots a double-glass design - Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides - with a thin aluminium frame in between (apparently thinner than LG G6’s). It is IP68 certified and MIL-STD-810G compliant.

Wireless charging with both WPC and PMA support is enabled. Charging the 3,000 mAh battery, through the Type-C port (Quick Charge 3.0) is also possible. The Qnovo battery tech present in G7 is expected to extend the battery endurance over the years.

Other noteworthy specs on the LG G7 include a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Storage is always expandable via microSD. A standard connectivity set, including LTE-A, 3-Band carrier aggregation, Cat.16/13 (1Gbps/150Mbps) Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0 and Dual-SIM are support in some markets.

Camera

The G7 sticks to the tested LG formula – a pair of 16MP cameras - one with a 71-degree field of view and the other with a wide 107-degree. The primary module is armed with a f/1.6 lens and is complete with OIS, phase detection and laser autofocus while the wide lens one uses a f/1.9 lens with no OIS and is fixed focus.

The camera is enhanced with LG's AI camera tech and a smart pixel-binning technology for low-light shots. The secondary camera is able to help providing depth information for more impressive portraits. Lastly, the selfie camera is an 8MP, f/1.9 which provides a 90-degree field of view.

Audio Capabilities

With G7 ThinQ’s design, LG made sure that its audio quality is underscored. With a Boom Box stereo speaker setup that is complete with DTS-X, G7 can easily simulate a 7.1 surround sound – unprecedented on a smartphone.

The 3.5mm audio jack in intact on the G7 that is connected to a high-end ESS 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC. LG has decidedly thrown in an impressive pair of microphones which has an pickup range of up to 5 meters.

Other noteworthy features

LG G7 ThinQ will be shipped preinstalled with Andriod Oreo and LG's AI Pack 2.0. The company will be releasing the Android P update the moment Google distributes the final version of its subsequent release.

Color options that will be available include New Platinum Gray, New Aurora Black, New Moroccan Blue and Raspberry Red. Official pricing and availability will be announced at a later date.
